2020/12 Vegas Lockdown Ghost Town
Lisa and I went to Las Vegas early December. We were unlucky enough to have gone just a few days after their Governor did the re-lockdown.
We stayed at the Excalibur and came in on a Thursday where we found that almost everything was closed (bars, restauruants, shops, etc) closed about 10 or 11!
We wandered to a few neighboring casinos (like NYNY) and found nothing was open and even the Casinos were almost completely empty!
We had heard that without the normal supporting crowds of tourists wandering around at night was questionable, so we didn't venture outside the Casinos.
Starved, we resorted to using DoorDash to deliver a pizza from a local place down the road to the hotel!
What we didn't know is that side of the Strip which included most of MGM Properties simply were not open and got no foot traffic (or vice versa). What we learned over the next few days is that if we had travelled towards the Ceasar's side of the Strip, Vegas was alive! And Old Town? It was BUSY.
And wandering around at night? We never felt there was any risk at all. We walked unfettered up and down almost the entire Strip. It is the ONLY time I have seen Vegas without people.
