It appears that Washington State Attorney General Bob Ferguson is attempting to make a name for himself in the Democratic Party by announcing an "assault weapon" ban and ban on "high capacity" magazines.
The proposed legislation will be proposed next year.

It is hard to say what form it will take since it will be modeled after other states "successful" [sic] bans and focus on new sales. Supposedly, existing firearms will be grand-fathered and there will be no provision for "registration." hmm...we have heard that before.

I guess we will have to wait and how they even define an "assault weapon" and if it is any closer to reality than the recent MA AG's interpretation: "I will know it, when I see it" ban.

SC adds CCW reciprocity with GA and NC

Written by

SOURCE: http://constitution.com/south-carolina-governor-signs-new-concealed-carry-agreement-north-carolina-georgia/

South Carolina has some restrictive CCW laws. To get an out-of-state license you must own property in the state and they will not honor any CCW license for which you are not a resident.
If you live in a state that doesn't have reciprocity you are out of luck.

I am glad to see that they now honor their border states.

It is interesting to note that in this day and age (all 50 states states now have some form of CCW) that the detractors are still saying that CCW laws cost lives.

In a strange twist, the Aurora shooting survivors suing now owe Cinemark $700K.

They had a chance to settle with Cinemark for $150K (split 41 ways would have given them each $3658). One person refused the deal and it moved forward to court where it was almost assured that they would lose and they would be liable for Cinemark's legal fees - about $700K.

37 (of the 41) immediately dropped the case prior to go to court. The remaining however now owe the legal fees.

real life 9mm vs grizzly!

Written by

How much bandwidth on the internet has been used with the [my carry load] vs grizzly or "What's a good load against bear?" threads on forums?

Here is an actual real-life example of a 9mm vs grizzly that has surprisingly been making the rounds in mainstream media!

Original: https://www.americanhunter.org/articles/2016/8/10/alaska-outfitter-defends-fishermen-from-raging-grizzly-with-9mm-pistol/
F
eatured in online news: http://www.grindtv.com/wildlife/fishing-guide-kills-grizzly-bear-charges-within-feet-clients/#AZtmkkEJvVttcmo5.97

You can read the articles, but the spoilers of it are:
S&W 3953 (alloy frame 3913) with an 8 shot capacity loaded with Buffalo Bore 9mm+p 147gr hardcast (1100fps rated) took down a grizzly.
The guide fired 6 shots before the grizzly began to flee, the 7th shot hit in the pelvis fleeing, leaving him with one round!

Amazing story, and very lucky!

This debate was just going on a local forum when I came across this link: https://sofrep.com/60925/former-army-ranger-nick-irving-compares-the-glock-and-1911/
The original article is here: http://loadoutroom.com/21293/glock-vs-1911-2/

The cool thing about this article is the fact that the opening pic is actually from this blog or my Flickr account!
They are actually of my Glock 23 and my Dan Wesson Classic Bobtail Commander (CBOB) chambered in 10mm.

And yes, that was before I figured out to perfect my crappy light box lol

Anyway, worth a read.

Remington R51 to return August!

Written by

I know that a lot of people are not excited about the Remington R-51, especially with the defective launch and continued problems. To make matters worse Remington said it would be fixed, recalled them and then went silent.
All references were removed and even at SHOT 2016 when I asked it was definitely the 'elephant' that they didn't want to talk about. They did confirm that it wasn't dead, but people were skeptical - how many times have we heard that before? Recent in my memory is the VLTOR Fortis/BrenTen, which I didn't even bother asking them about. But I digress.

I received an email that the new R51 will be launched August 12th and there is a big page presence on their web page:
https://www.remington.com/handguns/remington-r51/remington-r51?utm_source=bronto&utm_medium=email&utm_term=Image%20-%20Learn%20More&utm_content=THE%20PERFECTED%2051&utm_campaign=Remington%20Newsletter%E2%80%94%20R51&_bta_tid=25753419951054721914114673946897400905042185745505745581141958729401856

I am a big fan of the original R51 and the Pederson action. Yes, I understand that it is antiquated and scaling it up to 9mm +P was a tall order to begin with. However, kudos to Remington for even trying something out of the box, and at least in theory should reduce the felt recoil. I like big rounds, but quite frankly have you shot a Ruger LC9? Not horrible, but not exactly fun either.

At Shot 2014 I was super impressed with the sample R51's that they had (and they had a lot). I was suspicious at the time when they said that they were not ready to be SHOT MEDIA Days. In hindsight, it was a bad sign.
The pistol size, thinness, grip, etc. were very well designed and I said that if they worked I would get one. I guess we will see this time.

Incidentally, original MSRP (2014) was supposed to be $399. It looks like they are up $50 to $450. Still not too bad.

Mossberg leaving CT due to gun control

Written by

Mossberg is joining the list of manufacturers leaving their well-established states due to their states restrictive gun control against its citizens.

Here is another article: http://www.weaselzippers.us/193177-shotgun-maker-mossberg-moving-operations-out-of-connecticut/
"Mossberg follows Remington Arms, Kahr Arms, Les Baer Custom, Lewis Machine & Tool, American Tactical Imports, Ruger, Colt, Stag Arms, PTR Industries, Magpul, and Beretta in moving operations out of anti-gun states."

I have been remiss in reporting this but the new Nevada CCW Reciprocity List is up (updated and effective every July). Due to legislative changes it now, once again, includes Florida and Utah.

I don't have time at the moment but I will post more details shortly. The complete list is available in a link in the link above.

So, the Seattle Council voted unanimously to destroy Seattle PD firearms instead of allowing them to be sold to legal background checked buyers. The rhetoric on this topic was high and the anti-gun (all guns) agenda was clear when KIRO7 questioned the Mayor about it. They asked why give away the $30K/year that was projected to be lost (not to mention the cost of destroying them).

Mayor Murray:
"You know what costs this city? Is violence. Is gun violence. Is crimes involving guns." he said "And it's costing this nation an incredible amount of money."

KIRO7:
"...Is this really a problem for SPD?"

Mayor Murray:
(paraphrasing) Guns bad...I am the Mayor...Blah blah

KIRO7:
Asked for examples of any cases in which police guns got into the wrong hands

"The mayor said he does not have data specific to Seattle but believes guns sold out of state could easily come back to Seattle or other areas.

"Seattle police Sgt. Sean Whitcomb said in his 12 years with the department, he could not recall any former Seattle police guns being used in a crime."

Rhetoric over substance, and more costs to tax payers.

"KIRO 7 asked Seattle police how many guns would likely be melted down a year. The department has not yet released the number, or the potential cost of melting them down."

This is a good article from the Christian Science Monitor: http://www.csmonitor.com/USA/Politics/2016/0623/Why-Australia-isn-t-a-model-for-US-gun-control

This particular paragraph, I find significant because it is something that I have been saying but find it rarely in print.

"The sheer number of firearms in America today – an estimated 300 million – would also present practical and financial obstacles. If the US were to collect and destroy the same proportion of firearms as Australia did, it would require a buyback of 90 million weapons, according to one Australian researcher, as compared to only 640,000 firearms bought back by the Australian government. Paying full market value for the guns could cost the US billions of dollars. "
