Solved - Where are the MBS pins for the new Gen4 pistols?
So, I feel silly but I went to put on the next size back strap on my new Gen4 model 27 to make it the same size as my Gen3. Obviously the short one is in the pistol, but where was the longer one?
Ok, before you call me completely stupid the new Gen4s now come with (4) back straps including the two beavertail panels. They come attached on a bracket that also includes the MBS removal tool. I looked in the box (which is where they used to come) and couldn't find it.
So, I called Glock and the Sales Rep. I talked to was also confused and that they must be doing something new. She confirmed that they used to just come in a little plastic bag with the panels. See, I don't feel completely stupid now. Well, at least until I found out where they were. She transferred me to tech support where I did feel stupid.
For fun before I tell you where they are here is the original camera phone snap shot of my Gen4s. See if you can figure out where they are.
Ok, you probably know where it is. I can't for the life of me figure out why I couldn't.

The Answer (pic)
Anyway, I thought I would help anyone else that may have actually read the new manual and finding that it doesn't tell you where to find the long pin. Oh, and thanks to Glock Tech Support for quickly answering my question and not laughing (at least while I was on the phone) :)
Multnomah County Sheriff suspends concealed weapons permits to out-of-state (WA) residents
Source: opb.org
"So the sheriff made the decision to go ahead and focus on Multnomah County resident applications, try and reduce that backlog, and then we'll re-open the process for Washington State residents who have business here in Oregon."
Oregon is a little different than most states in that while resident CCW licenses are required by law (shall issue) if the person meets the requirements, non-resident CCW licenses (contiguous states only) are completely discretionary (may issue). This means that the it can (and does) vary from county to county. I know of at least one county that simply does not issue to non-Oregon residents.
It would appear that the Multnomah County is currently inundated by applications. We can assume that since they get a lot of WA applications because of Portland. They state that they will reopen the applications at least from WA in the future. What about the other states, I wonder?
Is it coincidental to the fact that Multinomah County just passed some interesting new firearm restrictions? New restrictions include the open carrying of a firearm while hiking and making it illegal to have a loaded magazine in "public" even if you don't have a firearm! See source: Oregonian
I guess we will find out what happens in the future.
2013 NRA Instructor Updates (S&W (tm), Ruger, Remington, Para, CZ)
Site update: I am moving all new Discount information to the "2013 NRA Instructor Discount" tab that is at the top of the website. I got some complaints that they were in too many places and was confusing. Except for these types of updates :)
All the updates below have been provided by fellow instructors so I want to thank them for taking the time to share what they have found out!
Ruger - Slated to begin the instructor program again June 30! No word yet if there will be a new price list.
Remington and Para - Now offers a 25% off of MSRP! Details in the tab above. Pricing on R1 and 870's looks pretty good. Haven't compared Para MSRP yet.
CZ-USA - CZ is using the same price list as 2012 (note: there is 2013 available) but an item must be overstocked, which most are not, in order to be eligible. The contact for the CZ program is Kipp Oertle (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) he can be contacted about availability of products and orders are placed through him.
S&W(tm) - Shipping estimate is now currently 8+ months!
NOTE: I am not affiliated with the company known as "Smith & Wesson" to which "S&W"(tm) is a registered trademark of its respective holder.
GLOCK - I get requests about Glock frequently. Since they have cancelled their Armorer Purchase program the best pricing is obtained through Blue Label. For non-LEOs this means joining GSSF (which is worth it anyway). A little known benefit of GSSF is that it is a CMP approved club.
That is all for now!
Glock Gen4 goodness (with pic) and good news - Blue Labels shipping now!
My local gunshop called to let me know that my Glock 23 and 27 Gen4s had come in! They said that Glock was definitely shipping now and that they had received more Glocks in the last two weeks than they have all year. Blue Labels, even for law enforcement were running almost two months. My pistols took 2 1/2 months.
Initial impressions?
Build quality is very good. Finish looks like it has changed again. It is more dull and a little greyer. It looks like it will scratch easier than previous iterations, but it is too early to tell. Frame is still stamped made in Austria - folks had been telling me that the all U.S. made models had replaced the Austrian made ones. While the U.S. made models do exist, it appears that they are not in U.S. distribution yet (at least for the models I bought).
The trigger?
It also seems that Glock has been doing some work here. The original Gen4 triggers felt gritty, heavy and stiff (IMO), at least when compared with Gen3s. This pair have great triggers. It is clean with a crisp break. In fact, I think that the reset it better than the Gen3. The break itself seems to have less of the "sproing" found in Gen3s.
The feel?
I really like the "cuboid" grip texture. The small grip of the 23 fits my hand even better than the Gen3. The 27 small grip may be a bit too small. Range time will tell. I didn't like the mag release in pics but it does feel pretty good. I found nothing wrong with the Gen3 release so I would have preferred that they didn't change it.
That's all I can think of at the moment. I am glad to have some Gen4 to gain some experience on. Even the Glock Armorers Course was very light on them. I will report back when I get some range time on them. Unfortunately, I didn't expect both to come in at the same time, so I ran out of $ to buy ammmo :)
Eventually these will replace my other non-Glock brand polymer pistols as my daily CCW.

84% of Colorado Sheriffs Sue to Block new gun control legislation
FROM: Reuters via Y!News
They keep saying it is common sense and the majority of people (including law enforcement) support their gun control. Yet here are 84% of the 64 Colorado Sheriffs in opposition...
By Keith Coffman
DENVER (Reuters) - A group of Colorado county sheriffs, angry about two new state gun control laws passed in the wake of last year's mass shootings in Connecticut and Colorado, filed a federal lawsuit on Friday seeking to block the laws from going into effect.
The two laws, passed by the state's Democratic-controlled legislature with scant Republican support, ban ammunition magazines that hold more than 15 rounds and require background checks for all private gun sales and transfers.
All but 10 of the state's 64 county sheriffs signed on to the suit, filed in U.S. District Court in Denver. In their complaint, the sheriffs allege the new laws, which go into effect July 1, severely restrict citizens' constitutional right to own and bear arms.
The sheriffs, who in Colorado are elected, also complained that they were operating under tight budgets and did not have the money or manpower to enforce the new laws.
"They (the sheriffs) cannot expend these resources to conduct investigations that would be necessary to monitor compliance," the lawsuit said.
The bills were introduced in response to a shooting spree that killed 12 people at a suburban Denver movie theater last July and the slaying of 20 children and six adults at an elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, in December.
Connecticut and New York also have passed stricter gun laws in the wake of the shootings. The National Rifle Association, the powerful U.S. gun lobby, has announced plans to challenge the new gun control laws in all three states.
REASONABLE SAFETY MEASURES
Democratic state Senator Mary Hodge, who sponsored the magazine-limit bill, blasted the sheriffs and said the restrictions were reasonable public-safety measures.
"We can't just sit by and do nothing while first-graders and moviegoers are being mowed down in one fell swoop with weapons equipped with large-capacity magazines," Hodge said in a statement.
Joining the sheriffs in the lawsuit are a number of gun-rights organizations and a disabled gun owners group, who say that magazine limits would restrict their ability to defend themselves in violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act, which bars discrimination against the disabled.
"Disabilities make it difficult to quickly change magazines under the stress of a home invasion," the lawsuit said.
Governor John Hickenlooper, a Democrat who signed the bills into law, is named as the defendant in the lawsuit. His office had no immediate comment.
Colorado Attorney General John Suthers, a Republican, said in a statement that his role "will be to get court rulings on the legality of various aspects of the legislation as expeditiously as possible."
"Colorado citizens, and law-abiding gun owners in particular, deserve such clarification," said Suthers, who did not publicly oppose the two bills when they were debated in the legislature.
Separately, a Colorado pro-gun group, the Basic Freedom Defense Fund, said it was circulating a petition to recall the president of the state Senate, Democrat John Morse, because of his support for gun control measures.
Morse, a former police officer, said he would likely face a recall election later this year as a result.
"If they are successful in removing the Senate president in Colorado, it will have a chilling effect on anyone who takes them on but if they fail they will be exposed for the paper tiger they should be," he said.
