Victory in NY - most of NY's Black Mirror laws blocked!
Written by reg mathuszNY's Black Mirror-like gun laws blocked, pending the inevitable appeal!
These were the revised less-Draconian laws resulting from SCOTUS' orders!
Un-Constitutional: proving that you are of "good moral character," listing all household members that have you have ever lived with, releasing all of your social media accounts for the last 3 years and making it illegal to have firearms anywhere that didn't have a sign saying it was ok, even if licensed by the State.

Wow, it is almost October!
It has been a heck of a year, both politically and personally. I have not had nearly the amount of time that I would have had liked to spend on the blog. To be honest, my home State (WA) has taken a beating and I now live in a "restricted State" where common things like a Glock 19 (the most common pistol in the U.S. both for civilians and law enforcement) magazine cannot even be purchased. Prior to the ban I struggled to find magazines for my surplus Beretta 380 pistol made in the 70s - you know an "assault weapon" - But I preaching to the choir. I won't even delve into other topics like 80% lowers. But, depressing.
To make matters worse the webhost I am on will not upgrade mySQL to 5.7 which came out in 2015! So, I am frozen software-wise unless I change software or change hosting providers. Maybe next year will see the return of a lot of the instructor discounts. There are still some running, but a lot were shut down for the year or greatly stripped down.
Thanks for reading!
Finally a win! SCOTUS rules against NY's arbitrary "probably-not issue" laws
Written by reg mathusz'“We know of no other constitutional right that an individual may exercise only after demonstrating to government officers some special need,” Thomas wrote in Thursday’s decision.'
Despite the Yahoo "News" yellow journalistic headline this was a good decision that if you read actually allows a lot of room for "regulation" but not ARBITRARY regulation from a random appointed Govt Official. This summarizes it: "It is the difference between regulating constitutionally protected activity and attempting to convert a fundamental constitutional right into a privilege that can only be enjoyed by those who can demonstrate to the satisfaction of a government official that they have an atypical need for the exercise of that right”.
I have not gone through the decision yet (link below) but I am sure I will have more comments :)

The famous Robar NP3 finishes will once again no longer be available to retail customers!
It is an amazing Nickle Teflon finish, but I suspect that it is too costly to finish and the demand has dropped in comparison to a lot of the newer finishes which are also customizable.

Oh wow, Hodgdon has announced that they are ceasing operations and shutting down its GOEX black powder facility at the end of the year.
It will be reevaluating the BP market and possibly even selling it.
In the past, Hodgdon has bought other powder businesses keeping them alive. I hope that is not a harbinger of things to come. Hopefully, Pyrodex will be around for a long time.
Biden withdraws Chipman as "gun control czar"
Written by reg mathuszChipman has been withdrawn as Biden's nominee for head of ATF.
Chipman was notoriously anti-gun, demanded a ban on "assault weapon" (although when pressed by Congress couldn't define one), called the "U.S. gun control czar" by Russian media during an interview with them (WTF?), and showed great contempt of gun owners calling us "Joe Exotics" (from Tiger King) who should hide their guns "behind cans of tuna."
He was also heavily criticized by his own fellow ATF co-workers - called a "bully" prone to temper tantrums and accused of losing his own service weapon.
The statements says that his nomination was thwarted by anti-gun control Republicans - in a Senate which is 50/50 with the VP able to break the potential party tie. The reality is that his opposition was bi-partisan.
In case you missed it - the Biden Administration has banned the import of Russian ammunition and firearms!
This is big because in this ammunition shortage, a large majority of ammunition that has been available lately has been from imports and will remain in effect for at least 12 months.
I do not know how the import permitting works, I but suspect this stops anything not already approved and in process which will drive the prices of what little supply there currently is.
Read the announcement here:
https://www.state.gov/fact-sheet-united-states-imposes-additional-costs-on-russia-for-the-poisoning-of-aleksey-navalny/
New sanctions imposed today under the CBW Act include:
- Restrictions on the permanent imports of certain Russian firearms. New and pending permit applications for the permanent importation of firearms and ammunition manufactured or located in Russia will be subject to a policy of denial.
Time to comment on the ATF/Biden proposal to make gun parts firearms!
Written by reg mathuszBy now most everyone has heard of the ATF's Proposed Rules to reclassify firearms and parts. If not, a quick Google will reveal much more information that I could possibly type today.
It is now time for the public to comment!!!
(Link also has complete text of the proposal)

Firearms historian testifies to Senate using actual facts!
Written by reg mathuszThis is good stuff!
Actual historian corrects the gun control and clearly labels "ghost guns" as propaganda. I especially like her refusal to use the term "ghost" guns because it implies that they are somehow invisible.

Glock wins PLCAA lawsuit, despite Biden asking for God's intervention
Written by reg mathuszDespite President Biden asking God for intervention. Someone shooting someone through negligence (stupidity) and then attempting to blame the firearm for being "defective" is exactly what the PLCAA is for. People also forget that is was passed with bi-partisan support.
"The suit was filed against Glock, an Austrian gun-maker, on behalf of Carlos Travieso Jr., who was in a car with others returning from a church retreat in 2018. Another teenager found the 9 mm pistol in the car and apparently thought it was safe because the magazine holding the bullets was missing. However, there was a bullet in the chamber, and when she pulled the trigger, it hit Travieso, paralyzing him.
The suit charged that Glock, the No. 1 firearms manufacturer in U.S. sales, did not have adequate safety features on the gun warning that a live round was in the chamber. The pistol does have a chamber indicator, but the suit said the gun was defective because it did not include other warnings or safeties.
Glock said it was covered by the immunity act because the shooting was a criminal act."
Oh, and the Biden part: " If I get one thing on my list, (if) the Lord came down and said, ‘Joe, you get one of these,’ give me that one.” He added, “Because I tell you what, there would be a come-to-the-Lord moment these folks would have, real quickly.”"
Bill to Ban Suppressors highlights that even the NFA isn't good enough
Written by reg mathuszSuppressors, commonly called silencers are ALREADY a part of this.
Even the NFA isn't enough.
*** BANNING things has always been the goal ***
We have all been bracing for Biden's executive orders regarding gun control. They have been long promised and still reside on his campaign website to this day. The announcement today announces what they will be addressing shortly. Although completely lacking in any detail, it does give us topics. Unfortunately, we already knew and feared they were coming (like pistol braces and "ghost guns").
Here are the key points of the announcement "fact sheet":
- The Justice Department, within 30 days, will issue a proposed rule to help stop the proliferation of “ghost guns.”
- The Justice Department, within 60 days, will issue a proposed rule to make clear when a device marketed as a stabilizing brace effectively turns a pistol into a short-barreled rifle subject to the requirements of the National Firearms Act.
- The Justice Department, within 60 days, will publish model “red flag” legislation for states.
- The Administration is investing in evidence-based community violence interventions.
- The Justice Department will issue an annual report on firearms trafficking.
- The President will nominate David Chipman to serve as Director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms.
US House passes HR8 - lengthening background checks and requiring them for private sales
Written by reg mathuszToday, the U.S. House passed an expansion of the time required to wait for a failed background check, create a National Registry (for confiscation later) and an unenforceable private sales background check requirement. Criminals understandably upset and now refuse to wear masks.
NOTE: Sarcasm
Added 3/11/21 @ 1721:
Someone asked me to elaborate on the failed background check on social media. Here is my response:
"Associated PressHouse passes bill to expand background checks for gun salesMARY CLARE JALONICKThu, March 11, 2021, 6:18 AM·5 min read
...The second bill, which passed 219-210, would extend the review period for background checks from three to 10 days. Rep. Jim Clyburn, D-S.C., introduced the legislation after a shooter killed nine people at a Charleston, S.C., church in 2015. The FBI said afterward that a ***background check examiner never saw the shooter's previous arrest report because the wrong arresting agency was listed *** in state criminal history records, and the gun dealer was legally permitted to complete the transaction after three days."
