Sheriffs vote to recognize concealed weapons permits

Published: Friday, June 10, 2011 11:35 AM PDT
The members of the Nevada Sheriffs' and Chiefs' Association voted on May 5 to recognize the carry concealed weapon permits of 15 states as being valid in Nevada effective July 1.

The states are Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Missouri, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Rhode Island, Tennessee and West Virginia.

Nevada Revised Statute 202.3689 requires the Nevada Department of Public Safety (NVDPS) to review each states statutes that are used to issue a carrying concealed weapon permit. NVDPS is directed to do the following:

1. Determine which states have an electronic database which is accessible 24 hours a day that identifies each individual who holds a valid permit to carry a concealed weapon issued by the State.

2. Determine which states have requirements for the issuance of a permit to carry a concealed weapon that are substantially similar to or more stringent than Nevada's requirements.

3. These results and recommendations are to be reported to the membership of the Nevada Sheriffs' and Chiefs' Association for review and vote on these recommendations.

The list of qualifying States will be posted on the Nevada Department of Public Safety website www.dps.state.nv.us by July 1.

The battle continues to keep CCW license holders' identity, address, contacts, references (everything on the app) private.

Last year an OR Appellate Court ruled that a local Sheriff disclose this info to a NEWSPAPER!

concealed weapon permit holders privacy battle continues

Going to doing a road trip in about a year and I will be attempting to travel through states where I have CCW reciprocity (more on this later). But, I was thinking I might want to get an inexpensive pistol (not junker) for travel lest I get upset that it should get damaged, lost, destroyed, etc.

No, I am not talking about a Saturday Night Special, but rather something that can easily be replaced -- meaning it can be found on the shelf and buying won't break the bank. A lot of my pistols are hard to find (it took me a year to find a super-clean 1006)! Well, any excuse for a new pistol, right? :)

So, here are my thoughts....it will be carried primarily in a shoulder holster but will need to be carried in an IWB limitedly (so mid-sized). Looong trip across a lot of land so 9mm/38SPL minimum caliber.

Here are a couple of contenders (and these are kind of the underdogs in the pistol world):

1. Ruger P95 9mm (~ $300)

2. CZ P07 40S&W (~ $425)

I was thinking maybe a revolver like a 3" Ruger GP100 357, but they are noticeably more than either of the two above.

Thoughts?

UPDATE 3/20/11:
Played with a CZ P07 at my local shop. Wow, these pistols are highly underrated. Build quality was excellent. The grip was THIN and fit my hands great. I don't know what people are complaining about the Omega trigger (DA and SA) was very nice. I like checkering, if you think that the grip is sharp definitely do NOT try an HK USP, FN FNX, or a Springfield TRP!

Price point is awesome (low $400's). The decocker is convertible to cocked and locked mode (thanks to the Omega trigger) and you may know my affinity towards DA hammer pistols with this capability. Definitely leaning towards this.

Why is the AP suing to get list of gun owners?

Written by

I know this strays into the realm of politics and that is not the focus of this blog (I have another one for that), but really:

Why is the AP suing to get the list of gun owners?
What legitimate purpose do they have?

What is they do...publish, right?
hmm..
Think about it.

So, I have been musing some sort of custom 1911 for awhile. I, however, have a hard time raising and then spending the significant amount of money required. Note that I am not saying that it isn't worth it, just that it is quite a hit to wallet.

So, much to my surprise Springfield Armory WILL put together a Custom Carry in 10mm!!

Note: This is from the SA Custom Shop. They are quite a step up from a production pistol like a TRP (and the TRP is quite a pistol in itself). The CC's are VERY well reputed for craftmanship rivaling other custom brands (although less talked about). I only asked about the CC with a few extra options, but I am sure other models could be done also like the Custom PRO.

The price difference vs a 45 was negligible. Thought I would share, as I muse my finances for 2011.

Looking for a good IWB leather holster?

You should check out C5Leather.com. The product is handmade with good turn-around and prices.
You can also customize your options, colors, etc.

I bought a Montana IWB for my DW Commander (CBOB). I highly recommend getting a holster that has the clips/straps off of the holster (to minimize width) and offset weight. Some of the other features I liked: reinforced mouth, sweat guard, single direction snaps (only come off in one direction), duotone.

Crossbreed SuperTuck Deluxe IWB with fullsize 1911

Written by

I felt like carrying my Colt Delta Elite yesterday. It didn't feel heavy and despite the 5" barrel was comfortable. CCW "comfort" really depends on what you are used to and what you are willing to put up with. One thing I have noticed is that if I don't position the pistol just right I get a little leg pain. However, yesterday it was perfect. I didn't even notice the weight/size until today when I switched to a smaller pistol.

Concealing a fullsize 1911 pistol IWB is definitely doable. Is is as concealable as a pocket pistol? Well, duh, obviously not. Wearing a shorts and t-shirt? Yes, concealable, but not if you are going to sit down, bend over, make a lot of motions with your arms. Or at least not as much as say an M&P 9c, a mini-Glock or one of the even smaller new super mini-pistols.

But, here is a pic of my Delta in my Crossbreed SuperTuck Deluxe. Great holster. Very concealable, and the open bottom design means it will work with other 1911 pistol sizes too.
