A while ago I bought a Maxpedition "Fatboy" Versipack.

I am too lazy to snap a pic, but it looks like this:

I wanted it for hot weather. I found that I didn't like the concept because it was kind of purse-like. It might have been in my head but I could have swore that I heard people snickering at me when I carried it in a store. I ended up only regularly carrying it when walking the dog. In that case, I wished I got the "Jumbo" which has a water bottle side pouch.

But I digress. Out here in the Pacific NW it has been pretty hot. But not too hot to discourage me from carrying a midsize pistol (and switching to a BUG). Over the 4th of July weekend we drove down into Oregon. Not a long drive but over 3 hours.

I don't know about you, but carrying a pistol on the hip, or in the waistband (my two most common modes of carry) for 3+ hours is NOT comfortable. And before you ask, YES I am licensed to carry in Oregon.

I have found that a shoulder holster is a good (meaning fairly comfortable) way to carry while driving. Over the years I have gotten rid of my shoulder rigs, except for 1911's and BIG revolvers. I could have carried a 1911 but for summer I am in a Glock 40 mood (23 and 27 BUG). Flame away, but I like that combo for summer.

So, what I ended up was using my Maxipedition "FatBoy"! Perfect! I could sling it across my body while in the car or lodge it in between me and the car seat. Instant access while driving and getting in/out of the car. Did I mention perfect? Now I could stop and buy beef jerky at my leisure.

Inside the the Maxipedition I had packed my CompTac CTAC holster (GREAT holster). So, before I got to my destination I just popped into the bathroom and switched to my IWB.

Carrying a midsize during hot weather takes a little more effort than just carrying my Glock 27 in an ankle holster (or a J frame) but still doable. Definitely no need to switch just to a smaller pistol :)

So, long live the "man bag" (as my wife calls it).

Wisconsin makes 49 states that allow CCW

Passed both Houses awaiting Governor's signatureb who has indicated he will sign it (unlike his predecessor).

Congrats Wisconsin! Being in a state that has allowed it since the '70s we welcome you! (Yes that is a plug for my home state of WA) :)

So, I have an AmSec safe. It is a little one, that replaced a gun cabinet. It is not our primary safe, in fact other than a few items it is used mainly for my wife's things. She complained that the lock was sticking.

After taking a look it became apparent that the bottom door bolt when unlocked was going in too far and catching on the lip on the way out. It was the only bolt that had this problem.

Here is a pic of it. You shouldn't see any of the inside:

Here is a pic of one of the other bolts, notice how everything is flush:

It was pretty easy to fix. I simply adjusted the 3 center bolts so that the bolt bar pushes the bottom bolt further out. I actually took it out to bend it outward, but it looks pretty straight.

Following is a picture of the inside of the firewall (about 12 screws hold it on). Notice the finger print marks. They are not from me, this is before I made any adjustments -- it came from the factory that way.
The circled area shows the bolts I had to loosen to adjust the bar.

Here is a pic of the bolt bar removed, circled are where the bolts hold it:

There you to. A little bit of tweaking and it is back in service (and locks again).

So, this 45Super THREAD ON SIGFORUM got me thinking...

Is anyone interested in some of the original documentation that I have from 45 Super creator Ace Hindman? Somewhere around here I have original correspondence, including hand-written instructions on beefing up a 1911, his actual pressure test results from Federal and Hodgdon, his handload data, how to cut and ream 308 brass to 45Super (historical significance since Starline 45 Super is now available) and original reviews and write ups from various magazines, books, etc. Ace was truly a gentleman and believed in sharing his work. He was very helpful to this poor, Top Ramen-eating, college student who only owned one pistol at the time. I couldn't afford the Ace Custom 45's conversion for 45 Super but that didn't stop him from helping me.

It will be a significant amount of work to find this stuff, scan it, and post it, so if there is no interest I won't bother. Please email me (or use the contact page option) if you would like to see the material.

Or just use the poll below...

Sheriffs vote to recognize concealed weapons permits

Published: Friday, June 10, 2011 11:35 AM PDT
The members of the Nevada Sheriffs' and Chiefs' Association voted on May 5 to recognize the carry concealed weapon permits of 15 states as being valid in Nevada effective July 1.

The states are Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Missouri, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Rhode Island, Tennessee and West Virginia.

Nevada Revised Statute 202.3689 requires the Nevada Department of Public Safety (NVDPS) to review each states statutes that are used to issue a carrying concealed weapon permit. NVDPS is directed to do the following:

1. Determine which states have an electronic database which is accessible 24 hours a day that identifies each individual who holds a valid permit to carry a concealed weapon issued by the State.

2. Determine which states have requirements for the issuance of a permit to carry a concealed weapon that are substantially similar to or more stringent than Nevada's requirements.

3. These results and recommendations are to be reported to the membership of the Nevada Sheriffs' and Chiefs' Association for review and vote on these recommendations.

The list of qualifying States will be posted on the Nevada Department of Public Safety website www.dps.state.nv.us by July 1.

The battle continues to keep CCW license holders' identity, address, contacts, references (everything on the app) private.

Last year an OR Appellate Court ruled that a local Sheriff disclose this info to a NEWSPAPER!
