Bloomberg group attacks VA Governor for daring to...compromise?
Written by reg mathuszAnti-gun groups are quick to say that pro-gun people are unreasonable and unwilling to compromise.
But apparently, they are quick to attack any pro-gun control supporter who might be willing to make a compromise. Hypocritical much?
Their complaints are very weak. Each side got something, and to use the anti-gunners' mantra:
"If it saves just one life!"
They wanted people with protective orders against them to not be able to give/sell their firearms away, but rather be required to give them to law enforcement. Why?
And the universal background checks requirement for gun shows is voluntary with a stationed police officer at gun shows didn't go far enough. But "if it saves just one life"? Right?
It essentially restores status quo of CCW reciprocity that existed before the AG's "re-examination" and to quote the article: "...in exchange for tighter restrictions on gun ownership by domestic abusers and voluntary background checks at gun shows."
Sounds good, right? Apparently not! I guess unless it is completely draconian or has the word "ban" in it, it is no good.
Let's also not forget the fact that there were a couple of bills introduced that would have reversed the CCW reciprocity AG ruling anyway. One attempted to make VA a CCW license-less state which would honor any state's CCW license!
In the end (and being from the Commonwealth myself) I like Gov. McAuliffe's response:
McAuliffe dismissed the criticism during an appearance in Northern Virginia, saying “everybody supports [the gun deal] except one gun-safety group out of New York City.”
Appellate court sends back Maryland's "because they're scary" assault weapons ban
Written by reg mathuszThis is a refreshing ruling from the 4th Circuit Appellate Court. The 3 judge panel ruled that the "because they are scary" justification to ban assault weapons is too vague and that it could effectively used to ban anything, sending the case back to district court.
This is actually a fairly decent article on the topic:
http://cnsnews.com/commentary/hans-von-spakovsky/fourth-circuit-strikes-blow-marylands-overly-restrictive-gun-law
What is frightening is what the dissenting judge said. He said that people would die because of this ruling. Wow, what rhetoric. I find that judge to be too scary to be a sitting judge.
Registration working? Getting a lot of password resets
Written by reg mathuszHello,
I know that folks have been registering on the site. I have noticed that there have been a lot of password resets.
Is there a problem with the registration process?
These last few WordPress "upgrades" have been knocking out functionality and I am having a lot of plugin conflicts for the first time since opening the blog. Please let me know if there are problems, or you can't get to what you are looking for. Please comment below or feel free use the "Contact" button or email me remat(at)yahoo(dot)com directly.
I am now looking into an alternative software solution for the site since it become troublesome to do basic things.
Thanks & sorry!
VA Gov & Republicans reach compromise on firearm reciprocity
Written by reg mathuszWell, this is an interesting twist. I am kind of impressed that a bipartisan agreement was reached in the Commonwealth of Virginia, however, I am alarmed that the Governor's Office (and Attorney General) have the ability to enforce/interpret the law.
Regardless, it looks like states will be added back in. I know that there are also several bills being floated that would make Virginia a permit-less state and one that would require them to honor any other state's CCW license.

SHOT Show 2016: CZ-USA (and Dan Wesson Bruin)
Written by reg mathuszAnother one of my favorite booths. This year CZ has some great new variations that I like including a whole new line of suppressor models. I even like the "urban gray" color.
One thing that I am excited about is the new P-01 Omega. I have been asking CZ to bring back the P-02 (basically a P-01 with a locking safety) and this is VERY close. Aluminum framed CZ75 compact with a locking safety--What's not to like?
The Dan Wesson Bruin 10mm also looked great and was very popular. I am curious to see how sales go.
The CZ booth was also interesting because they were one of the few booths to actually question what media I was with. Apparently, there had been some anti-gun media through the booth earlier. I wonder if it was the folks that were kicked out for not following the rules that has been widely reported.

I stopped at this booth by request.
They make some cool inexpensive single-action revolvers. They are known for their "Rough Rider" convertible 22LR/22MAG rimfire revolvers. They are a blast to shoot and quite a bit less than their competitors (that I am aware of). I didn't realize that they offered full size centerfire models also.

DSArms had a cool booth, possibly related it was also a booth with beer on tap. Their new release was a titanium frame FAL. I am not sure how I feel about that. The initial release of the Voyager with the aluminum frame was met with skepticism and took a while to hammer out the problems (mostly their all US made mags).

Great ad campaign. I had no idea that they used DSArms FAL's. I neglected to ask which model.
The rep said that they had several angry people come by thinking that the ad condoned the killing of the rhinos. Apparently, some folks didn't take the time to read the ad. Or perhaps they were part of the anti-gun media that was there.

Chrome users reporting site comes up with mobile theme
Written by reg mathuszI have confirmed this on my end too. I don't know why it is defaulting to the mobile theme with Chrome. What's worse is that it looks like some of the newer content (SHOT Show) is not viewable. I am looking to see if I can fix or turn off the mobile option for now.
Thanks & sorry
SHOT Show 2016: Ruger (American Pistol and SR-Silent 22 Suppressor)
Written by reg mathuszWow, Ruger is proud of their All-American pistol. They had a whole rack of the on display and a team of reps dedicated to them. None of them paid any attention to me as I scooted past them to look at the RAP.
Well, I personally was not impressed. I will let readers decide if they think that it is an improvement over the SR-series but I did not like the feel or fit/finish. The trigger was ..ummm..not good. I do like the looks of the pistol, but that was about it. It was hard to get a good pic of it even after messing with the camera settings.
The new Ruger Silent-SR 22 suppressor looks great. It was small and VERY light. MSRP is $450, so pricing is affordable. The rep at the booth was very friendly and helpful.

That's all for tonight, more to come tomorrow.
